Chiropractic in the NFL

According to the Palmer College of Chiropractic, all NFL teams currently have a chiropractor as part of their sports medicine staff. This is a big jump since a 2002 study which showed only 31% of teams had a chiropractor on staff at the time (although the study admitted that players from every team were likely seeing chiropractors on their own).

Why are pro football players so keen on chiropractic care? Have any of the most famous players seen chiropractors? We’re going to answer these questions and even provide you with a few quotes from NFL players discussing the benefits of chiropractic care.

Some of the Most Famous NFL Players to Use Chiropractic

You can’t forget the 1990s 49ers who dominated the NFL. Did chiropractic help? It may have according to both Joe Montana (the team’s star quarterback), and Jerry Rice (a legendary wide receiver). Consider what they had to say about chiropractic care:

  • “Chiropractic has been a big part of my game.” – Joe Montana
  • “I did a lot of things to stay in the game, but regular visits to my chiropractor were among the most important.” – Jerry Rice

The list doesn’t end with quarterbacks and wide receivers. One of the great running backs of all time, Emmitt Smith, explains why he would need regular visits.

  • “I go see the chiropractor when I get bent out of shape on Sundays. Playing in a football game is like being in 30-40 car accidents.” – Emmitt Smith

Even defensive players get in on the action. Bill Romanowski is one of the most successful NFL linebackers. How did he both receive and dish out hit after hit without missing a game?

  • “I was able to keep the streak of 243 straight games… I was so amazed at what Dr. Buhler [a chiropractor] was able to do with my body and well-being.” – Bill Romanowski

Why NFL Players Love Chiropractic and You Should Too

The thing that keeps players in a game when their body is taking a beating is maintaining proper alignment of the bones and surrounding soft tissue. When you’re out of alignment, you are more likely to suffer an injury that can put you on the sidelines.

The same thing holds true even if you sit at a desk all day. Maintaining proper alignment can fight against the strain that a modern office environment puts on the neck and back. So whether you spend your weekends on the field, your weekdays in the office, or both, Ward Chiropractic & Rehabilitation is for you. Call (703)672-1661 today or request an appointment online.
