Sports Injury FAQs

Can Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Treatments Help with a Sports Injury?

Sports and exercise are a great way to maintain optimal health. Exercise is awesome for your cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems. Injuries from sports can happen due to accidents, improper training, a traumatic event or faulty gear. Being over enthusiastic, using poor form or moving too quickly can also result in pain and injury. Chiropractic and rehabilitation may not be the solution for all sports injuries but our treatments are helpful for many athletes who have been sidelined by pain. This is especially true if the injury has caused misalignments and muscle spasm.

What Types of Athletes do You Treat?

We take pride in treating athletes at a verity of levels of competition. We do work with top level athletes. Prior to starting the practice in Fairfax, Dr. Ward worked exclusively with division one athletes at Georgetown University. While we enjoy the high stakes realm of division one athletics, many of our patients are triathletes, weekend warriors, and youth athletes.

How will You Diagnose my Sports Injury?

A detailed history is and physical exam is the key to determining the cause of your problem. We will ask you about your specific injury and listen. It is our experience that most athletes are in tune with their bodies and have a good idea of what is occurring. Our exams focus on the alignment, range of motion and muscle spasms. Sometimes additional testing is needed. If this is the case we can order x-rays, MRI, ultrasound or other studies as indicated.

What are Your Treatments for Sports Injuries?

Our treatment is injury specific. Our goal is to restore the body to normal so that you can perform. Have you ever had a nagging injury that just won’t go away? Perhaps you’ve been injured, recovered only to reinjure the same area shortly thereafter. This usually happens because the underlying cause of the injury is not fully addressed. We use functional rehabilitation exercises tailored to restore balance to your body. When necessary we also use gentle chiropractic adjustments to fix misalignments that may be perpetuating an injury pattern.

We pride ourselves in our caring and long-term relationships we develop with our patients, so schedule an appointment today. We look forward to seeing you!
